Well if you didn't go last night you missed a great time. Six of us from the
club ventured up to the Lucky Dog in Beverly for Stump Trivia. Those
attending were Stephen and Christine Carr, Harvey Leibovitz, Kara Sheppard,
Marylou Clifford and Dave Winkler. Also playing as a team were Janine
Stanton Pete Towner, and Janine's parents Norman and Donna. In Stump Trivia
teams can be no larger than 6 players. If you have more than 6 you forfeit
first prize if you win. The whole bar participates in Trivia. Each team
makes up a catchy team name. The CPYC crew had a couple of different names
being thrown about, but settled on calling our selfs "The Drunken Bastards".
Other teams were "Old Car Nuts", "Steven Hawkins karaoke Machine" and 4
others I can't think of, 7 in all. We played in 4 quarters with half time
and bonus questions between quarters. Each quarter consisted of 4 questions
that each team placed a numeric value on (1,3,5,7 in quarters 1&2, 2,4,6,8
in quarters 3&4) based on how well they thought they knew the answer. Clues
usually followed every question with the m/c playing a song that maybe had a
hint in it. All answers had to be turned in before the song ended.
In the first round we got all the questions correct so things were looking
up. In the second quarter we missed 1 but luckily it was only for a 1 point
loss. So we still looked good. The bonus question was a picture question. A
piece of paper with about 12 musical bands on it from Australia was handed
out. You had to name each band. I think we only got 3 correct, we had most
of the names right but labeled the wrong pictures of each band. This started
our down fall. In the 3&4th quarters I think we only got 1-2 answers correct
in each. WE BAD. The bonus question had a declining point value with a
penalty for an in correct answer so you don't want to guess. It was about a
movie star born in 1932. There were a lot of clues given. If you got the
answer correct after the first clue it was worth 10 points, after the second
clue 8 points, 3rd was worth 6 points etc. After the first clue I thought
Roy Schneider for Jaws fame. Being early in the guessing we decided to hold
off that answer. After the second clue we had some doubt. By the 3rd clue we
forgot about Roy and decided to go with Robert DeNiro for 6 points...Wrong,
it was Roy Schneider after all. Too Bad...we suffered a 5 point loss on that
wrong answer. So at the end of the forth quarter we get the standings. The
Drunken Bastards are in 6th place out of 7. Bummer. But of course there's an
overtime question from World War II and a chance to redeem our selfs. We
were given a paper with 10 dates on it. You had to name the battles from
WWII each date represented worth 2 points each. We got 4 or 5 and moved up a
spot to 5th place overall. Not the best showing but certainly not the worst
either. "The Old Car Nuts", Janine, Pete and her parents won first prize.
Great job by everyone.
After Trivia ended we enjoyed a couple of games of darts trying out the
electronic score boards. Very nice.
I personally had a great time and would do this again if anyone else would
like too. Lets talk.
Next Thursday darts will be back on at the club. Come on down and ask any of
tonights participants what they thought of "Trivia Night at The Lucky Dog"
