Greetings everyone, Well it's that time of year again to start thinking
about fall and winter activities down at the Cottage Park YC. The Dart
League and Drop-in bowling will start up the new season on Thursday evening
October 4th. Please stop by and join in the fun starting @ 7:00PM. Contact
Dave Winkler or Judy Gaffney for additional information.

The following is copied from The Dart League page of the Cottage Park YC
web site:

The CPYC Dart League made its debut in January of 2005 and quickly gained a
regular following of players. Starting out with two dart boards, set up on
the pier side of the ballroom, with custom halogen lights and score boards
to match, we were all set to play. It wasn’t unusual for 18 or more players
to show up on Thursday nights. Realizing two boards where not going to be
enough to get the games done in a timely fashion we added two more boards
that are on temporary hooks and are put up as needed. After the success of
the first season we decided to set an earlier start date to commence playing
darts in future seasons. Play now starts in October and lasts through May.

All skill levels are welcome to attend these tournaments. We have a wide
variety of players each week ranging from people who have never picked up a
dart, all the way up to a few who are veterans of various leagues. Don’t own
your own set of darts? No problem, the CPYC Dart League maintains several
sets of “house” darts stored in the Pilot house. Just ask the bartender for
them. Each week teams are made up at random using a “Luck of the draw” style
format to pair up teams. There is no commitment to show up every week. But
when you find out how much fun we have, you’ll say to yourself “maybe we
should play more often than just once a week!” Don’t know the rules. Again
no problem. Each week we explain the rules and strategy to newcomers.

The CPYC Dart League follows a simple format for game play. Each Thursday
night at 7:00PM a sign-up sheet is presented for everyone to sign in and get
a number. We charge a small fee of $3.00 which pays for upkeep of the
equipment, food on some nights, and a year end banquet/party. At
approximately 7:20 numbers are drawn and teams of two are paired off on a
playoff style bracket sheet. Once all players are chosen play begins. The
format of the playoff bracket is “Double Elimination” meaning that the
winner of a game moves on and the loser moves down to the “Loss Bracket”. As
the night moves on teams who suffer their second loss are eliminated.
Eventually the last team standing in the loss bracket earns the right to
play the undefeated team from the winning bracket in the finals. Keep
winning and go all the way! We play a game called Cricket. In Cricket you
shoot to score 3 darts in each of the following number fields:
20,19,18,17,16,15,Bullseye. There is a scoring component to the game as well
as a strategy.

So, what are you waiting for? Come on down the club any Thursday night
between October and May and join in the fun.
